Gisborne _hours

When you grow world class
wine as we do, you will be impressed how the terroirs at our place create the perfect wine.

THERE ARE 9 MAIN WINEGROWING DISTRICTS WITHIN GISBORNE, DIFFERENTIATED MAINLY BY CLIMATE. WITHIN EACH OF THESE REGIONS THERE ARE TWO SOIL TYPES - THE CLAY LOAM AND SILT LOAM, EACH WITH ITS OWN DISTINCT CHARACTERISTICS.

Our clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry; this is a key differentiator of our wines. The natural water holding capacity of our clay rich soils allows us to grow the grapes naturally without irrigation.
This access to water, paired with the natural
fertility of the soils, creates ideal growing
conditions for sparkling wines.

The vines are strong, and have the ability to flavour ripen good crop loads early in the season, retaining freshness and natural acidity in the grapes. The freer draining friable silt loams with organic topsoil are a perfect marriage for Premium table wines. The vines are balanced, the canopies are open and the fruit ripens gracefully and wonderfully in the ample sunshine. These soils have substance and impart flavour to the region's intense, rich, full bodied Chardonnays and Aromatics. Using the region's natural attributes of soil type and growing districts allows us to make truly complex and memorable wines. Perfectly.
