When you study soil as fastidiously as we do you soon realise how varied it can be.

THERE ARE 4 MAIN WINEGROWING DISTRICTS WITHIN MARLBOROUGH, EACH WITH THEIR OWN TERROIR - SOIL, WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND GRAPE CHARACTERISTICS, AND WITHIN EACH OF THESE REGIONS ARE SUB REGIONS, EACH WITH ITS OWN TERROIR.

Each area imparts a unique flavour to the grapes growing there, and this diversity gives us a wonderful palette of flavours to blend from; from ripe gooseberry

and passionfruit, to a hint of nettle and cut grass. The heavy fertile soils of Coastal Wairau for example, lead to excellent canopy growth and pungent aromatics, yet Rarangi, a sub district within Coastal Wairau, has sandy peametal soils that lead to higher fruit exposure and riper, more tropical notes. Mastering these subtle yet vital differences has been a slow process, but it's been well worth it.
